The 4-story building includes a concrete slab-on-grade and roof and CMU walls. Due to the building height, the roofline was lowered and incorporates a flat concrete roof in lieu of the traditional standing seam roof utilized at the existing hotel. The project also includes an elevator and an elevated walkway that will tie into the existing building.

The
Divi Carina Bay Casino is the first and currently the only Casino to be
built in St. Croix. Benton Construction Company, Inc. was selected as
the Construction Manager and completed the project on a fast-track basis.
Initiating construction prior to completed drawings, Benton worked closely
with the Architect to adapt an existing hurricane damaged structure to
meet the Owner's goals while maintaining an aggressive schedule. The project,
which includes over 8,000 SF of conference/banquet space, banquet food
preparation support, a full service commercial kitchen, casino management
and support, and 10,000 square feet of casino floor space, was completed
in less than 5 months.
On
November 15, 1999, two weeks prior to the originally scheduled Grand Opening,
the project suffered extensive damage from a tornado spawned by Hurricane
Lenny. Benton was able to reconstruct the entire facility in just 12 weeks
to meet the Owner's revised Grand Opening date.
